The overwhelming demand to visit China’s record-breaking glass bridge has forced local officials to shut it down.

The structure spanning the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon closed just 13 days after it became open to the public, CNN reported.

“We’re overwhelmed by the volume of visitors,” a spokesperson from the canyon’s marketing and sales department told CNN. The bridge has a capacity of 8,000 visitors per day and demand reached ten times that.

It is unclear when the bridge will reopen to visitors, but the Chinese news site, China.org.cn reported that it will have to pass an official evaluation beforehand.

The attraction has been hailed as the world’s highest and longest glass-bottomed bridge. Ninety-nine glass panels connect across the canyon, creating astounding views 980 feet above the rocky forest.
