"Dear Sainsbury's, it is with a sad heart that I write to inform you that your lettuce made me fat..."

Sainsbury’s shopper Leila Jayne Daly was making herself a nice salad one day when she noticed something a bit gross - a worm crawling around on her lettuce.

She decided to complain to the supermarket via Facebook, but she may have exaggerated the severity of the situation just a little bit.

“As you can imagine I was absolutely horrified,” she wrote. “My children started crying, my cats started headbutting the wall in shock, I soiled myself, my husband divorced me, it was complete madness.”

She blamed the national chain for making her fat, saying the ensuing chaos after spotting the creepy crawly caused her to eat a burger (which made her “instantly gain 12 stone”) instead of the healthier option. Sticking with her over-the-top attitude, she then demanded they cease trading immediately.

“Hang your heads in shame. Fire all your staff. Close down your business. There is no other way. “

Luckily the lovely people on the Sainsbury’s social media team noticed her sense of humour and responded with some funnies of their own.

Leila ended up receiving not only a Sainsbury’s gift card, but also a Netflix gift card and a laminated drawing of a worm for her distress. Wonderful.
