Jobe Watson Abandons Coffee Spoons, Returns To Wooden Spooners

He's back, and he's a feminist, apparently.

News has filtered through that the crema de la crema is returning. Jobe Watson will return to Essendon.

The 2012 Brownlow medallist has abandoned his career as a New York barista, and will try once again to be best-on-ground instead of best-on-grounds. We're confident he gave the coffee thing his best shot.

But enough bad coffee puns for a moment. The question everyone is asking is: what's with that cap? Is he trying to send us all a message? The Huffington Post Australia has put that question to Watson's management.

Pretty sure this look is called 'green steel'.

For now, we can inform you that the cap is part of the range by the US-based women's clothing label Wildfang. Yes, Jobe is wearing a girl's hat. Here's what the blurb says about said item.

Rock this snapback and you are getting down with some of the most badass women in the game. From artists to musicians, athletes to CEOs, feminists are getting it done and changing the world.

Word out of Melbourne is that he wore the cap as a gesture of thanks to his New York housemate Jackie, who helped him through tough times during his ASADA-enforced ban, and who has been educating him on equality in the workplace.

"She was educating me on gender equality and she bought that hat for me and I told her I would wear it if I was ever going to do a media conference here," Watson told the Herald Sun.

Now back to some bad coffee puns.

Watson, 31, was one of the pod of players who left the Bombers on a 12 month suspension because of the Essendon supplements scandal. He will be 32 by the time the 2017 season begins.

The status of his Brownlow Medal remains uncertain for now, and Watson's 200-game, 111-goal football career was also believed to be in the balance. Watson was disillusioned with the fallout from the supplements program which Essendon club legend James Hird oversaw as coach. There were fears he would leave football.

But those fears evaporated like steam this Friday morning.

He can still kick.

"I'm really excited to be back at the Essendon Football Club and I'm ready to play at the highest level," Watson told a Friday morning press conference in Melbourne. "I'm really happy and content with the decision that I've made.

"When I left Australia I didn't think I'd be coming back to play," he said. "I was really fortunate I was living in New York with a flatmate I was able to open up to and be honest with about how I was feeling."

Watson confessed that he was a bit of a drip when it came to making a decent brew.

"I struggled... almond milk is a nightmare to work with," he joked.

For the uninitiated, almond milk is almost impossible to turn into froth. Whether Watson can add body and richness to the Bombers 2017 campaign remains to be seen.

As for the cap that says "feminist"? We have questions.
