Julia Gillard Hung Out With Rihanna For An Awesome Cause

No, this is not a joke.

Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Rihanna have unveiled one of the world's most random partnerships, and it's for a vitally important cause.

Gillard revealed this week the pair would be joining forces after RiRi was named an ambassador for Global Partnership for Education (GPE), a charity that ensures every child receives a basic quality education.

Our former PM is a chair of the international charity that operates across more than 60 developing countries.

She shared a photo on Twitter welcoming Rihanna to the team and said GPE was thrilled to have her on board.

"Rihanna's voice and travels to countries where GPE is actively engaged, will be hugely influential in improving the lives of girls and boys everywhere," the former Labor leader said in a statement on the GPE website.

RiRi was equally as stoked about the partnership, tweeting Gillard back in excitement.

The image of the former politician and pop superstar quickly got people talking about what looks like could be a pretty awesome partnership.

The pic comes just days after Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull met rapper Ludacris in New York.

Leaving us wondering what's next -- Scott Morrison and Eminem?
