Australian Rhiannan Iffland Leads Women's Cliff Diving World Series

The 25-year-old is a seriously daring athlete.

Australia's Rhiannan Iffland is leading the competition after the seventh round of the women's cliff diving world series.

Aussie show diver Rhiannan Iffland is at the top of the leaderboard the end of the seventh leg of the Red Bull cliff diving world series.

Awe-inducing images show competitors diving off the historic Stari Most bridge in Mostair, which is in the country of Bosnia and Herzegovina in southern Europe. Women dive from a 21.5 metre platform, while men face a 27.5 metre plunge.

The Red Bull competition is the biggest competition for the extreme sport in the world.

The Aussie wildcard is placed first overall. On Saturday, she scored 240 to place third in the seventh stage of the competition. She came in five points behind the winner Canadian Lysanne Richard on 245 points, who was followed by American Cesilie Carlton. Fellow Australian Helena Merten came fourth on 236 points.

Rhiannan, who comes from Newcastle, only began her cliff diving career last year.

"For me, it is an amazing opportunity to take part in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series, to compete alongside so many courageous and amazing athletes from a number of countries and to be given the opportunity to travel to fantastic destinations all over the world to compete in a sport that I thoroughly enjoy is a dream come true," she said via the competition website.

In the men's competition, Czech competitor Michal Navratil scored his second win of the series, followed by Gary Hunt from the UK and David Colturi from the US. Gary Hunt leads the men's competition at the end of the seventh stage.

The next stop for the cliff diving world series will be Shirahama, Japan.
