Son Of Former Adelaide Crows Coach Found Not Guilty Of Murder

The son of former Adelaide Crows coach Phil Walsh has been found not guilty of murder on the grounds of mental incompetence.

Twenty-seven year old Cy Walsh had been detained in a psychiatric facility following his arrest over the the murder of his father in July last year.

The South Australian Supreme Court on Wednesday formally ruled that Cy Walsh was not guilty.

"I find he was suffering from a psychotic episode as a result of schizophrenia, which at the time of the conduct was undiagnosed," Justice Anne Bampton is reported to have said on Wednesday.

Former AFL Coach Phil Walsh, 55, was stabbed 20 times at his home in 2015. At least two of the wounds were fatal, the court heard earlier.

It is understood Cy Walsh will undergo mental health treatment.

In a statement read to the court, Cy Walsh's mother and Phil Walsh's wife Meredith said she would continue to love her son.

"My heart remains broken. My daughter is also shattered," she said.

"We now all live the devastating consequences of a mental illness that was not understood.

"I will continue to love and support my son as his father has always done."
