International Tap Water Tasting Championships Are A Thing

And we're sending a Tasmanian drop

So exquisite!

Have you ever had a glass of tap water and thought: 'gees this tap water is exquisite, award-winning stuff?'

No? Well you mustn't live in the Tasmanian town of Barrington, because it's been named the winner of the Ixom 2016 Best Tap Water in Australia competition.

Not only did every state and territory submit a sample of their freshest tap water to taste, the Tassie winning sample will now be submitted to the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting Competition held in West Virginia, USA, which is called "the Academy Awards of water".

Where did our best water come from?

NSW: Sample taken from: Bowraville, Nambucca Shire Council

QLD: Sample taken from: Barcaldine, Barcaldine Regional Council

SA: Sample taken from: Morgan, SA Water

VIC: Sample taken from: Myrtleford, North East Water

TAS: Sample taken from: Barrington, TasWater (WINNER)

Water Industry Operators Association of Australia chief operations officer Craig Mathisen said tap water was an art form with many contributors.

"Many of us turn on the tap for a drink of water, to cook and take a shower and give little thought to what it takes to operate and maintain the municipal water infrastructure.

"Most members of the general public would be surprised by the complexity and hard work that goes into delivering household water.

Judges in the grand final in Tasmania 2016.

"That's one of the reasons for the water tasting contest, we want to celebrate our unsung heroes - the water operators and their crews who work all year-round to ensure we have water, which is essential to keeping us alive."

While the Australian competition was judged by members of last year's winning community in Marysville, Victoria as well as water experts, the international competition seems to take it to the next level.

Good luck Barrington, the one to beat is multi-award winning Best Water in the World Clearbrook from British Columbia in Canada.
