The folks at Hasbro are reshuffling the Monopoly Australia board for 2017 and we all get a say on what 'properties' will make it onto the board. Ritika Gray, associate brand manager at Hasbro, said Aussies will be able to vote for a shortlist chosen by each state and territory's tourism office.
"Australians love voting and having a say so we thought it was a great opportunity to have a say and shape the board game," she said.
"For me I'd definitely be voting for Sydney Harbour, I've always lived in Sydney."
The new Monopoly Australia board will feature landmarks from each state and territory grouped in colour groups by state. The state or territory with the most votes will nab the coveted dark blue and green spots on the board.
Could this be the start of an interstate rivalry? Ritika won't rule anything out.
"People are really really loyal to their states," she said.
There are 40 destinations on the shortlist but only 22 property spots on the board. It's going to be hard to choose between Australia's much-loved landmarks, from Tropical North Queensland to Broome.
But one landmark had us scratching our heads. Will Orange make it on the board?
"Orange represents that beautiful wine country and countryside part of New South Wales," Rikita said.
And with stunning views like this, we have to agree it holds it's own against some tough competition.
Not even all our capital cities made the shortlist -- sorry Adelaide.
"The country is so vast. It's difficult to capture everything," Rikita said.
The new version, which will be available from July 2017, will have chance and community chest cards adapted to Australia but the utility and transport cards will be generic. Photos of the destinations will be on the board itself so it's guaranteed to be as beautiful as our country.
