An evening of Halloween fun became a nightmare for a young girl and her mum on Monday night, hit by a learner driver in Sydney's west and rushed to hospital.

An eight-year-old girl and 27-year-old woman were reportedly trick-or-treating at Jordan Springs, near Penrith, around 6.45pm when they were hit by a utility turning a corner from Lakeside Parade onto Greenwood Parkway.

Police said the car mounted the kerb, struck the pair, then hit a parked car in a driveway outside a nearby home.

The woman suffered pelvis injuries while the girl sustained a head laceration. Both were taken to hospital in serious but stable conditions.

"The female learner driver and her adult male passenger were uninjured," police said in a statement.

"Police from Penrith Local Area Command are investigating the incident. Forensic officers will be in attendance to examine the scene."
