Jane Garrett, the Member for Brunswick who recently stood down as Emergency Services Minister, has revealed she has breast cancer.
"I have recently joined many other women in a fight against Breast Cancer," Garrett said in a touching message on Facebook.
"After a successful operation last week, I will be taking some time off for treatment and recovery. I expect to be back at work as soon as possible in the New Year.
"My wonderful electorate staff and volunteers will continue to look after the needs of Brunswick residents in the interim.
"I would ask for privacy for my family as we support each other through this difficult time."
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has joined many others on social media in pledging support for Garrett during this difficult time for her.
