Kate McKinnon returned as Hillary Clinton to give an exquisite rendition of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” on “Saturday Night Live.

With actor Alec Baldwin not appearing as President-elect Donald Trump this weekend, it was up to the comedian to tackle the tricky topic of the U.S. presidential election results in the opening skit all by herself.

And she did it in somber style, by paying tribute to Cohen, who died earlier this week — and using his haunting lyrics to reflect the mood of half the nation.

The most poignant lines were possibly: “And even though it all went wrong, I’ll stand before the Lord of Song, with nothing on my tongue but hallelujah.”

At the end, a visibly emotional McKinnon turned to the camera and said, “I’m not giving up, and neither should you.”
