The star of a recent “Beverly Hills 90210” reunion was one cast member who couldn’t be there: Shannen Doherty.

Tori Spelling, Jason Priestley, Luke Perry and Jennie Garth all attended the ’80s and ’90s –focused fan convention REWindCon over the weekend. But Doherty, who is battling breast cancer, could not attend the event in Bloomingdale, Illinois, due to her cancer treatments.

That didn’t stop Perry and Garth from making her influence known, however.

“None of us are up here today without Shannen,” Perry, who played Doherty’s on-screen boyfriend, Dylan, said at the conference. “She’s been through a lot. She’s not doing well right now, but sometimes her contributions are minimized.”

Perry added that Doherty was a big part of the reason why the show became so successful and named Brenda and Dylan his favorite couple of the series.

“She taught me a lot. I’m glad she was my scene partner. She was great at what she did in the character with me.”

Garth, who has been public about her rollercoaster relationship with Doherty, also posted a heartfelt message about her on-screen frenemy on Instagram:

The message reads:

to my soul sister [Shannen Doherty] strongest lady i’ve ever known. then and now. i used to be threatened by your spirit, now i’m in awe of it. you’ve taught me a lot about speaking my mind and not being afraid of my power. i’m so grateful that young me got to be friends with you. but especially “old” me! the best is yet to come on this crazy journey!! love you!

Garth confirmed in 2013 that the tense friendship her character, Kelly Taylor, had with Doherty’s Brenda extended offscreen as well.

“We were locked in this sound stage for 14-a16 hours every day,” Garth told E! about working with Doherty. “There were times when we loved each other and there were times when we wanted to claw each other’s eyes out.”
