CANBERRA – Security officers at Parliament House have quelled a protest in which protesters abseiled down the front of the building to unfurl a banner opposing refugee policy.
The banner, which read "close the bloody camps now", was part of the effort to decry the Turnbull Government's policy of offshore immigration detention. Other protesters stood in a nearby fountain.

The protesters appear to be the same people who disrupted and suspended question time on Wednesday for the first time in 20 years.
LNP Senator James McGrath has told Sky News the protesters are "absolute grubs" and if they want to have their voices heard they should "run for parliament".
After a stand off with police, during which they appeared to scale the roof to get close to the protesters, they were removed from the building.

Shortly after 10.30am, police were seen to approach the protesters and attempt to take their details.
