Now here's a food trend we can get on board with.

Foods trends are either amazing or just plain strange. For example, acai bowls = amazing. Spirulina (AKA blue-green algae) = not so much.

So in which category does pulled pork which is actually made from jackfruit fall? AMAZING.

If you're vegetarian or vegan, you probably already know about this culinary wizardry. But for those who are still wondering how you make pulled pork out of a fruit, here's an explainer.

Jackfruit is a monster of a fruit native to south and southeast Asia, which can weigh up to a massive 35 kilograms. But it's not the size of the fruit which makes it a great meat alternative, it's the texture.

This incredible fruit (which you can eat on its own and in desserts) has a chewy, meaty texture that shreds perfectly, meaning it's the ideal 'meat' option for those who live without it, as well as for anyone who's up for trying something new. And it's healthy.

But where does the savoury pork flavour come from, you ask? From spices and seasoning, dear friends.

And where do we find this exotic, spiky fruit? In cans, friends, in cans.

Seriously, head down to your local Asian supermarket and look for young jackfruit in a can. Then stock up, run home, and make these barbecued jackfruit sandwiches with avocado slaw by Minimalist Baker. Eat them. Share them with your friends (or don't, because they are fantastic).
