First Pics Of 'Dance Academy' Spinoff Movie Unveiled

The Emmy-nominated TV show is coming to the big screen in April 2017.

Dance Academy fans all rejoice, the movie poster and first photos from the new Dance Academy movie spinoff are here -- and they are on point.

The Aussie television series enjoyed three seasons and was twice nominated in the Emmy awards. It followed the ups and downs of a group of teenagers training at the elite National Academy of Dance. Picking up the story 18 months later, Dance Academy: The Movie follows Tara Webster as she pursues her dance dreams in New York City.

"One of the things we really wanted to deliver with the film is that step up from being in the Academy, so being in the professional world," the film's executive producer Joanna Werner said in a behind-the-scenes video on Facebook.

"A dance scene that we spent the whole day filming we would've done before morning tea, just because of the pace of television," she said.

"The characters didn't want to let us go, they sort of wanted to live on," said Dance Academy writer Samantha Strauss.

Get your tutus ready, the official release date is set for 6 April 2017.
