If cricket and sailing isn't your thing and you want to escape the heat and Boxing Day sales, there's no better way to enjoy your public holiday Monday than to indulge in some of the newest flicks to hit cinemas around the country.

From another Disney hit to a jazz musical romance and a World War II thriller, Boxing Day releases are set to be popular among movie fans and the promise of air-conditioned cinemas will definitely help you get over Christmas Day's food comas.

Check out the some of the big films hitting screens around Australia from today.

Moana is an animated adventure film about a spirited teenager, the daughter of the chief of a Polynesian tribe, who ventures out on a mission to find a Demigod, prove herself as a master wayfinder and save her people.

With Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson as the star of this hearty, feel-good flick, it's sure to be a hit among children everywhere, as Disney always is.

Tipped to be one of the biggest hits of the holiday period, La La Land is a Damien Chazelle musical original featuring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in a romance film that will have your heart swooning.

The movie focuses on an aspiring actor in Los Angeles (Stone) who falls in love with a jazz musician (Gosling) and was creating an Oscar buzz long before hitting screens on Monday.

In what has been a tough year for Brad Pitt, both the actor and his co-star Marion Cotillard copped some unfortunate reviews ahead of Allied's premiere on Boxing Day.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, this film is "plodding and pedestrian even in the technical magic that is a Zemeckis trademark... a case of a director out of his element with a script that fails to generate much heat."

The flick focuses on a romance between a Canadian special agent (Pitt) and a fellow operative (Cotillard) during a World War II mission.

Good or bad, we'll let you decide that for yourselves.

Another potential children's hit, Sing is about as star-studded as it gets and looks to smash the box office this holidays period with many of your musical favourites featured.

With Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon, Seth MacFarlane, Scarlett Johansson and John C. Reilly as some of the stars, kids and adults alike will surely be dancing along as a koala named Buster Moon tried saving his failing theatre with an American Idol-style singing competition.

If you're looking for some quick laughs to fill your Boxing Day, this is the film for you.

The film follows a dad who travels with his family to visit his daughter in college only to find her new boyfriend is a tech billionaire with some questionable personality traits.

Featuring Zoey Deutch, James Franco, Bryan Cranston and Megan Mullally, this movie is sure to be a hit among Gen Y and older crowds who understand the cheeky humour and relate to the boyfriend-father tension.
