Michael Chamberlain, who fought for justice when his daughter was snatched by a dingo in 1980, has died from complications connected to acute leukaemia.
Fairfax Media report the 72-year-old died on Monday evening at Gosford Hospital with his son, Raegan, and daughter, Zahra, by his side.
Chamberlain's long term friend and solicitor Stuart Tipple told Fairfax the 72-year-old went into a coma on Sunday night. Tipple said Chamberlain's other children, Aiden and Kahlia, were travelling to the hospital.
Michael Chamberlain, who was originally born in New Zealand, came to Australia in 1965 before marrying Lindy in 1969.
The couple were charged when their daughter, Azaria, was snatched by a dingo from their tent in Uluru in 1980.
Lindy was charged with murder and Michael was charged with being an accessory. After a long battle, the couple were pardoned, exonerated and compensated in 1988.
The couple both remarried and Michael became a writer and academic.
