Read And Weep Folks, There's An Actual Nationwide Garlic Bread Shortage

This is REALLY crumby.

In one of the most disturbing stories from the start of 2017, it's been revealed that Australians are dealing with a nationwide garlic bread shortage. And yes, it's for real.

How has this happened? Well, George Weston Foods which is one of the main suppliers of the garlicy goodness to Domino's and Pizza Hut is dealing with a contamination issue.

Basically a piece of Teflon plastic was found in the margarine blender filter which led to the company having to cease production and issue a recall.

A Domino's Pizza spokesman has even addressed the bloody nightmare saying the safety of food products was extremely important to them, the Courier Mail reports.

"Yesterday one of our suppliers identified they had found plastic in some batches of margarine, applied to their garlic bread, and immediately notified us," the statement said.

"We will bring our garlic bread back to our menu as soon as possible, but only when our supplier assures us it is appropriate to do so."

Like we said, read and weep folks.

Traditional garlic bread isn't even on Domino's website anymore, it's almost like it never existed. Naturally there has been nationwide public outcry.

Never fear folks, garlic bread is a surprisingly easy treat to cook up yourself. So here's a recipe you can make at home, we don't want you suffering withdrawals now do we?
