'A Table To End Hunger' Is The Valentine's Day Campaign We Can Get Behind

Australia's top restaurants have joined the fight against world hunger, all you have to do is make a reservation.

It's no secret Aussies love great food.

For us, looking up the menu of a new restaurant is a national pastime. As is 'gramming its fruits. When we're not eating, we're talking about eating and whether you're by the sea, on a farm or in the city, you can bet world-class fare is just a stone's throw away.

This doesn't always work in our favour however, as many would know the frustration of a lengthy restaurant waitlist (we're talking months people, not hours). Especially during popular times like New Year's Eve and Valentine's Day, for instance.

It's a first world problem, sure. But as V-Day approaches, a campaign solving your little problem while also solving a much bigger problem -- world hunger -- might just be enough to get you behind the increasingly commercial day dedicated to love.

In collaboration with Australia's top restaurants, The Hunger Project has reserved tables on the night of February 14 which they'll be auctioning off to the highest bidder.

All proceeds will go to programs empowering the poorest and most marginalised people in Africa, India and Bangladesh.

From Melbourne's Toko and Perth's Wildflower to Canberra's EightySix and Sydney's Bennelong, The Hunger Project's 'A Table to End Hunger' initiative gives you the chance to skip the queue with a conscience.

The Hunger Project's CEO, Melanie Noden explains while there has been huge progress in the past 25 years with the number of people living in hunger being cut in half, there's still a way to go.

The organisation's global mission? End chronic hunger by 2030.

Sydney's The Apollo restaurateur Sam Christie explains getting behind the campaign was a no-brainer.

"I've done a fair bit of travel and am very aware of this severe worldwide problem. I hope that being involved can bring some more awareness and help solve one of the mankind's most severe issues," Christie said.

And with the state of the world right now, it sure feels like an easy cause to get behind.

You can participate in 'A Table to End Hunger' by visiting atabletoendhunger.org.au to bid on a table at your selected restaurant for Valentine's Day (14 February 2017) for dinner. For a full list of participating restaurants, head here.
