Australian Student Dies In Phuket After Jet-Ski Accident

The victim is believed to be 20-year-old Emily Jayne Collie.

An Australian university student has been killed in a devastating jet-ski accident while holidaying in Phuket, Thailand.

Emily Jane Collie died after her jet-ski allegedly collided with the one her partner was riding in the ocean off Kata beach on Sunday afternoon, the Bangkok Post reports.

According to the publication her partner told Thai officials that the strong sunlight from the sea made it impossible for him and Collie to see each other, leading to the crash.

The 20-year-old Victorian suffered severe neck and shoulder injuries. She was pronounced dead before she reached the hospital, Thai media reports.

According to SMH, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade has said that they couldn't provide further information for privacy reasons.

"The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade is providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian woman who died in Phuket," they said.

She's been remembered by her friends as a strong and determined woman who was on the trip of a lifetime.

"I know you're up there our darling, and I know the stars will forever shine brighter now that you've found home in their skies," Bree Lyon wrote on Facebook.

"Cant accept the fact that such a beautiful person has been taken away too early," Kalia Grundy said in another post.
