This Is One Bloody Strange Sporting Interview, Especially The Pineapple

Proof that 2017 is officially a bizarre-o sandwich with weirdonnaise.

So weird. Just so, so weird. We've seen bizarre sporting interviews, but nothing beats these twin chats with Japanese pool player Naoyuki Oi at the World Pool Masters.

We'll show you the interviews in a moment. But first, we need to back up a few months.

OK, so late last year, the weirdest song ever went viral. It was so terrible, it was almost good. Almost.

The song was called Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen (or PPAP) and was the product of "Pikotaro", the alter-ego of Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka. Kids in playgrounds everywhere have been singing this mind-numbing yet strangely addictive, er, "song" for months now.

Here it is. Know as you watch this that it has been viewed many millions more times on YouTube than Let It Be.

Back to the sports news. Naoyuki Oi either wins or loses various games of pool at the World Pool Masters -- the details really are unimportant here -- and then, interviews of the strangest kind occur.

There's this one in which Oi hoists his arms aloft and yells "CONGRATULATIONS ME!!!!" before answering a follow-up question with lyrics and hand gestures from PPAP.

And there's this one, in which he just cuts straight to the lyrics and hand gestures from PPAP.

Why? Because this is 2017 and 2017 is a bizarre-o sandwich filled with corned beef and weirdonnaise, that's why.

At least he didn't say it was a pineapple of two halves.
