Sydney's Art Scene Is About To Open After Hours

Art Month is almost here.

It's that time of year again. Each time March swings around (how did we get here exactly?) a creative extravaganza kicks off across Sydney.

Art Month is a three-week festival that lifts the curtain on the best of the city's contemporary art offerings. And it all starts on Wednesday night.

"I liken Art Month to a window for people to see not only the finished product but also the journey that an artwork goes on and the journey that artists themselves live through. Artistic Director Barry Keldoulis.

And what greater way to see eye-to-eye with artists and their life's work than to scour their creative spaces after hours with a beer (or three) in hand?

A surefire way to reignite Sydney's night life.

In 2017, along with new offerings throughout the Barangaroo precinct, the 'Art at Night' program is the festival's new focus. Some of Sydney's most creative neighbourhoods will be left open after dark over the course of three nights.

Starting with Redfern and Chippendale, two inner-city Sydney suburbs, on Wednesday night. Trail through galleries and Artist Run Spaces at your leisure (along with a few hundred of your closest friends).

Start your trail at multidisciplinary arts space 107 Projects before umming and ahhing at the marvels inside Galerie Pompom and not-for-profit architectural space Verge Gallery. Finish up at Cake Wines for a well-deserved drink.

And do it all again in Paddington and Woollhara in two week's time (March 15).

Along with the festival's Precinct Nights, Art Month promises artist talks, insights into the private art collections of some of Australia's eminent artists, a preview screening of the upcoming Brett Whitely biopic and more.
