A ride at Gold Coast's Dreamworld has stopped midway up a vertical track, leaving passengers stranded.

Vision from 9 News showed people stuck on the Buzzsaw ride, billed on the theme park's website as "the highest inversion ride experience in the Southern Hemisphere" at 46 metres high, on Monday afternoon.

Reports from the scene indicate the passengers were extricated from the ride after spending around 30 minutes stuck.

At 3pm, Dreamworld posted a statement on its Facebook page explaining what went wrong. The park blamed an auto-stop sensor, "a regular and essential part of operations," for the incident.

Calls to Dreamworld have gone unanswered, but QLD Police said were not been called to the incident.

The Buzzsaw ride rises 15 stories and reaches speeds of 105 km/h, according to the park's website.

"Starting with a suspenseful 46m vertical ascent that will have you instantly wishing you were back on the ground," Dreamworld's website states.

More to come.
