The âexclusively gay momentâ in the âBeauty And The Beastâ remake has now been revealed, following speculation that arose when it was first teased.
Last week, director Bill Condon announced the live-action version will would feature Disneyâs first LGBT film moment, but later admitted his comments had been âoverblownâ in the media.
After finding out exactly what the scene will entail... yep, weâre kind of inclined to agree with him.
OK, so we already knew that the aforementioned âgay momentâ would centre around LeFou, Gastonâs right-hand man, who the director claimed would have feelings of confusion surrounding his romantic feelings for the villainous character.
However, the moment itself wonât actually concern Gaston at all, but will rather see LeFou dancing with a male soldier during the filmâs closing scene.
According to Digital Spy (spoilers ahead): âAt the happily-ever-after point, when Beast and all his furniture are back in human form, LeFou gets his âexclusively gay momentâ: a dance with another male soldier at the ball, when everyone is paired off.â
The site then points out that the mystery man in question has been âdressed and made up as a woman by a cheeky enchanted wardrobeâ, presumably echoing this moment from the original Disney cartoon:
Speaking about the moment in an interview with LGBT lifestyle magazine Attitude, Bill revealed: âJosh [Gad, who plays LeFou] makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And thatâs what has its pay-off at the end, which I donât want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.â
He later backtracked somewhat, insisting: âItâs part of just what we had fun with... I feel like the kind of thing has been, I wish it were â I love the way it plays pure when people donât know and it comes as a nice surprise.â
âBeauty And The Beastâ arrives in UK cinemas on Friday 17 March.
