The AFL's all time greatest goal-kicker and the first and only full forward to ever win the Brownlow Medal has taken up a coaching role with his former club the Sydney Swans.
After a 15 year absence from the game during which time he withdrew almost completely from the public eye, has been rather overshadowed by his appearance.
At his first training session with the Swans recruits on Tuesday night, the 51-year-old was snapped looking incredibly lean in both body and face with a build that was almost unrecognisable from that of the player who hung up his boots in 2002.
The same night at the club's guernsey presentation and Hall of Fame Induction, Swans chairman Andrew Pridham made the official announcement of Lockett's return as a part-time coach. The announcement was immediately met with a loud eruption of cheering and applause from the audience.
As the news spread over the course of the evening, so too did the photos snapped by News Corp photograher Phil Hillyard earlier in the evening at the training session.
The Ballarat-born Lockett began his career as a St Kilda recruit in 1983 before the Sydney Swans snapped him up in 1995.
Lockett then remained with the Swans for the rest of his impressive career during which time he clocked up 1,360 goals over the course of 281 games.
Based on the NSW Southern Highlands, He was involved in the greyhound industry for several years after his retirement, and emerged on Tuesday night looking every bit as lean and fit as one of the dogs he so loves.
