REPORTS: A car has driven to a White House check point with the driver claiming to have a bomb in his vehicle on Saturday evening in Washington.
CNN says there was no confirmation there was any device in the car but security at the White House has been upgraded.
One person is in custody and several streets around the White House have been closed.
The Secret Service has released a statement saying that "at approximately 11.05 pm, an individual drove a vehicle up to a Secret Service checkpoint located at 15th Street and E Street NW. Upon contact with the individual, U.S. Secret Service Uniform Division Officers detained the individual and declared his vehicle suspicious.
"In accordance with proper protocols, Secret Service personnel increased their posture of readiness.
"Due to the fact that this is an on-going criminal investigation, the Secret Service will not provide any further details at this time."
President Donald Trump was not in the White House at the time of the incident.
