Ben Cousins Jailed For One Year For Stalking, Drug Possession

He was also fined $2400.

Former AFL player Ben Cousins has been sentenced to a year in jail for stalking and drug possession.

Cousins, 38, appeared before the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday, having pleaded guilty to aggravated stalking, seven breaches of a violence restraining order against his former partner, two drug related charges and driving without a licence.

According to Fairfax Media, the court heard that the AFL Players' Association had offered to partly fund Cousins' rehabilitation if he avoided a jail term. His original AFL club the West Coast Eagles also offered him a job if he was able to stop taking drugs.

But the Magistrate sentenced Cousins to 12 months' jail and fined him $2400, thus denying Cousins the chance to attend a voluntary rehabilitation program that had been arranged for him.

More to come.
