The NSW Police Force's Meme Game Is On Point

Come on, there's no denying it.

You would have been forgiven if you believed the news on Saturday that the NSW Police Force had announced the formation of a dedicated Meme Team.

However, while the announcement turned out to be just another April Fools prank, there's no denying that the force's meme game is on point.

While they've been actively posting on Facebook for close to seven years now, their meme strategy is fairly new -- but it's definitely working.

Strath Gordon, the force's Director of Public Affairs, previously told The Guardian that the strategy has only recently been deployed, but has already given them them one of the highest engagements of any Australian government organisation on Facebook.

Gordon believes that the interspersing of the memes among law enforcement messages and public service announcements makes sure that things are still kept serious.

"We understand that tone, we understand that there's a fine line, and you always have to be a little cautious," he said.

"I think we've got the balance about right...Nothing's been regarded as crossing the line and people are usually pretty quick to tell us."
