Betsy -- a scientifically crafted bottled beer -- is making its way Down Under, allowing Aussies to enjoy the full experience of coldie while they're 30,000 feet up in the air.

The beer has been created to counteract the effects that flying has on our sense of taste, the sensitivity of which is reduced by around 30 percent due to the cabin air drying out our nasal passages and taste buds.

The higher levels of carbon dioxide in Betsy seek to overcome this problem, with the increased carbonation reportedly stimulating flavour receptors on the tongue, encouraging a greater sense of taste.

In addition to this, Betsy has also been crafted using 'Dragon Eye' fruit, honey and Fuggle, which is used in a variety of British ales, giving it its own distinctive taste.

The beer was produced by Cathay Pacific in partnership with Hong Kong Beer Co and will be offered to passengers on flights from Australia to Hong Kong in April.

"Australians love their beer, so naturally we're excited to be bringing Betsy to our flights," Nelson Chin, General Manager Southwest Pacific, Cathay Pacific, said.

"The addition of Betsy on our flights from Australia is just one way we're helping our beer-loving passengers travel well."
