'The X-Files' Are Coming Back For 10 More Episodes

The truth is *still* out there.
Fox

Mulder and Scully are back on the hunt for the truth with Fox announcing on Thursday that "The X Files" is set to return for an eleventh season. The new season will be another limited run, with 10 episodes, and will see the return of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the iconic FBI agents Mulder and Scully.

In 2016 the series returned for a revival of six episodes, marking the show's 10th season. Set 14 years after the events of the ninth season, the revival was a huge ratings success for Fox.

While the limited number of episodes made many fans believe the revival was a one-off event, Fox had yet to confirm the eleventh season until this week.

Speaking to "Entertainment Weekly" back in 2015, Duchovny alluded to being open to doing more seasons if the initial revival was well-received.

"I would be open to doing another cycle," he said. "I don't know that I could do a 20-episode version of this show at this point in my life, and I don't know that Gillian could. But I think everybody is open ended on what happens after this. Certainly, we didn't bring it back with the idea of ending it."
