Five-Year-Old Boy Injured In Shooting In Sydney's South-West

His parents did not call an ambulance, instead driving him to hospital themselves.

A five-year-old boy is in hospital being treated for a hip wound following a shooting in Sydney's south-west.

Police believe a single bullet was fired from the street into the boy's family home on Morison Drive in Lurnea at around 9pm on Monday night. The bullet hit the boy -- who was in a front room of the house at the time -- in the hip.

Neighbours report hearing shouting and the slam of a car door at around the time the shooting took place.

One neighbour, Aileen Ali, told ABC News that she did not hear a shot being fired.

"All I heard was some yelling and car doors slamming and then it went quiet," she said.

The child's parents did not call an ambulance, instead driving the boy to hospital themselves.

The boy remained in a stable condition in Liverpool Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Detectives have established a crime scene at the south-western Sydney home, where Liverpool police detectives and Forensics Services officers are investigating a bullet hole in the front of the property.

The family's car is undergoing forensic examination as a matter of police procedure.

No-one has been arrested in relation to the shooting as yet, with police saying the motives behind the shooting remain unclear at this early stage in their inquiries.
