Chinese Toddler Survives After Being Run Over... Twice

She escaped with only minor bruising.

Cameras have captured the horrifying moment an unattended toddler was run over twice while crossing a busy road in China.

In the footage, the toddler disappears under a white SUV while running across the intersection in Xichang City, Sichuan Province. This is immediately followed by another car travelling closely behind.

The girl was taken to a local hospital where she was treated by doctors, suffering only a minor bruise according to China's CCTV+.

"The surveillance video footage on site and our preliminary investigation show that when the toddler was running across the road, she was in the blind zone of the first car and the driver didn't see her," Guo Wei, a police officer with Xichang Public Security Bureau said.

"And the following car was moving too closely behind the first one and the driver failed to see the toddler... so both cars ran over her."

The girl was reportedly in the care of her grandmother who was momentarily distracted when the incident ocurred.

China's rapid urbanisation as seen 200,000 people lose their lives to road traffic crashes each year, according to the World Health Organisation.
