Revolution Sweeps Through Litchfield In First 'Orange Is The New Black' Season 5 Trailer

Orange Is the New Black” Season 4 left off with chaos at Litchfield prison ― but that was only the start of the inmates’ revolution.

Netflix released the first full trailer for Season 5, which debuts June 9, Tuesday morning, and it’s not short on action. The riot sparked by Poussey’s (Samira Wiley) death quickly escalates as the prison is overrun by its inmates, who are shown in various scenes banging on a window shielding a prison guard, shouting around a bonfire, using a cellphone to state their demands and, bizarrely, attempting a seance.

We’re still not entirely sure whether Daya (Dascha Polanco) decided to shoot the slimy prison guard after a tussle in the hall led to her gaining control of his gun ― although a previous teaser offers some hints.

Season 5 comes with a format change as the action unfolds in real time over the course of just three days. The riot and its aftermath will “[leave] the inmates’ lives forever changed as they are emboldened to fight for redemption, resolution and the respect they deserve,” per Netflix.
