Renowned veteran ABC journalist and broadcaster Mark Colvin's final message has been posted to his Twitter account in the hours following his passing on Thursday.

Always the prolific Twitter user, Colvin had more than 170,000 tweets and 103,000 followers on the social network, and tweeted "it's all been bloody marvellous" as a final, posthumous goodbye.

The presenter of the ABC's flagship radio program PM died on Thursday aged 65 after battling a rare and chronic autoimmune disease, Wegeners Granulomatosis, for more than 20 years.

He is survived by his wife Michele McKenzie, who he married in 1987, two sons and grandchildren.

After working for the ABC for more than 40 years, Colvin's friends, family and colleagues took to Twitter to send messages of tribute and support to the respected journalist.
