Not to the board that checks who reviews medical journals, it would seem.
Public health Professor Mike Daube wanted to uncover the process by which journal reviewers are scrutinised, so created a fake academic profile for his dog, Ollie, according to a story by The West Australian.
Daube listed his Staffordshire terrier's research interests as "abdominal massages for medium-sized canines" and "the role of domestic canines in promoting optimal mental health in ageing males".
Dr Doll was going to become an associate editor of the Global Journal of Addiction and Rehabilitation Medicine, and had been featured in the prestigious Medical Journal of Australia's Insight magazine.
"While this started as something lighthearted," Daube told The West Australian. "I think it is important to expose shams of this kind which prey on the gullible, especially young or naive academics and those from developing countries."
Perhaps this will spawn a new trend of dogs becoming involved in science -- complete with more lab reports.
