Bodies Of Missing Victorian Mother And Daughter Found In Bushland

Isabel and Judy Stephens from Benalla went missing last weekend.

A week-long search for a missing Victorian mother and daughter from Benalla has ended after the bodies of Isabel and Judy Stephens were found on Saturday afternoon.

Police discovered the bodies located near Samaria, south of Benalla in north-east Victoria, around 4.30pm on Saturday, 35 kilometres from where the women were reported missing.

Victorian Police spokeswoman, Natalie Webster said the discovery of a Toyota Yaris lead police to the bodies.

"A white Yaris was located by police near Aquila Rise, which is an extension of Exton Road, just after 4.30pm," she said.

"Two bodies were then located approximately 1km from the vehicle."

Isabel, 89, and her daughter Judy, 53, were last seen on Sunday, May 21, at Tatong Tavern in Benalla.

Police are investigating the cause of the women's deaths but have indicated they are being treated as not suspicious.

Tatong Tavern owner Chris McCabe told The Age locals are devastated.

"It's a tragic thing and everybody is disappointed and sad," he said.
