Australian Man Dead Following Altercation in San Francisco

Two suspects have reportedly been detained in connection with the alleged homicide.

A 33-year-old Australian man has been killed following an altercation outside a hotel in San Francisco, according to reports.

The victim was identified as Matthew Bate by the San Francisco Medical Examiner's Office, who is reportedly a tourist from Darwin, NBC reports.

Bate was killed outside the Da Vinci Villa Hotel in the city's north in the early hours of Friday morning following "a verbal altercation that became physical", a San Francisco Police Department spokeswoman told Fairfax media.

Police have reportedly detained two suspects in connection with the alleged homicide.

Investigations are continuing.

A spokesperson for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade told HuffPost Australia that consular assistance was being provided to the family of an Australian man who died in the U.S.
