Sharon Needles, the winner of the fourth season of âRuPaulâs Drag Race,â recreated Kathy Griffinâs controversial Donald Trump photo shoot for a performance of Yeah Yeah Yeahsâ âHeads Will Rollâ last night.
According to World of Wonder, Needles decided to give the memorable performance at the P Town Bar in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where she frequently appears, after stepping off of a 14-hour flight from Tel Aviv. She reportedly applied fake blood to an Owen Wilson mask, manipulated a red Joan Rivers wig into a style that resembled Griffinâs hair and then posed and performed with the head while dressed as the comedian.
For Needles, who has been called the âqueen of shock drag,â the use of the Rivers wig took on extra special significance.
âItâs kind of mind boggling the levels to this story,â she told WOW. âThat a female comic in this day and age, who was a friend of Joan Rivers, and who was on âCelebrity Apprenticeâ with our president, is subjected to this type of abuse. I mean⊠if only Joan was still around. And the fact that we donât hold our male politicians to the same standard as female comedians is shocking⊠â
Griffin sparked bipartisan outrage last week when a photo of her holding a fake decapitated head meant to represent President Trump was released. The backlash was swift, with multiple venues canceling upcoming appearances, CNN dropping her from its New Yearâs Eve show and Trump himself tweeting about the photo.
Griffin apologized and later gave a press conference where she claimed the Trump family was âtrying to ruin her life.â
âI donât think Iâm going to have a career after this,â Griffin said Friday. âHe broke me,â she added before noting that she was determined to carry on. âYou know what, Iâm going to make fun of him more now.â
