Bodies Recovered After 100 People Buried Alive In Landslide In China

A rescue mission is underway.

Dozens of bodies have been recovered as rescue crews continue to search through the rubble of a landslide that buried over 100 people in a mountain village in south-western China.

A couple and their one-month-old baby are the only survivors to be rescued from the site so far.

According to local Chinese media outlet People's Daily, the names and identification numbers of the missing victims have been published online and the government is asking the public for information which could lead to their rescue.

There are over 3,000 rescuers working to find survivors under the rubble.

According to Chinese media organisation Xinhua, rescuers are using life detector equipment and sniffer dogs in their search for those missing but geological experts have warned the chance of survival was very low.

China News reported nearly 40 homes have been buried in the Maoxian County, in China's Sichuan Province, as a result of the disaster. The landslide also blocked a two kilometre section of river and buried over 1,500 metres of road.

The natural disaster is said to have occurred at 6am Saturday, local time.
