Pilot Fighting For Life After Light Plane Crash On The Sunshine Coast

A pilot is fighting for his life after sustaining critical injuries following a light plane crash at Caloundra Airport on the Sunshine Coast.

The pilot, identified as Ben Berg, was trapped inside the aircraft after it flipped upon landing just before midday on Saturday.

Berg is in a critical condition, suffering injuries to his head, chest and legs.

Another passenger who was also trapped in the wreckage was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Queensland police report four people were on board the flight, however two of the passengers, a man and a women, managed to escape the crash with minor injuries.

The aircraft, a South African-designed Sling 4 piston-engine kit plane, reportedly stalled before flipping on approach to the runway.

Caloundra airport was closed following the incident while emergency services attended the scene.

The crash occurred just 200 metres from a busy housing estate.
