Watch Winx Win Her 20th In A Row In The George Main Stakes After Looking Totally Gone At The Halfway Mark

Winx just did it again, winning the George Main Stakes at Sydney's Randwick Racecourse for the second straight year. Her incredible winning streak now stands at 20.

The six-year-old wonder mare has not had things her own way this spring. She missed the start badly at her first run back from a spell before overhauling the field in the nick of time. Then two weeks ago, Winx had to reel in a tearaway leader.

This time, things also looked extremely concerning for her huge legion of followers. Halfway through the 1600m race, jockey Hugh Bowman was riding the mare extremely vigorously. Normally that's a sign that the horse doesn't have much to give.

But that's most horses, and this is Winx, who came from third last to overhaul the well-performed Happy Clapper by two lengths.

"She's done it again. She's just such a delight to be a part of. She never fails to get the job done... I expected it to be close," jockey Hugh Bowman said.

"I'm just so proud of her, so so honoured to be [associated with] her."

Meanwhile trainer Chris Waller said he wasn't concerned when Winx appeared to be labouring during the race before her enormous engine kicked in on the long Randwick straight.

"I'm not over worried about how she was travelling mid race, true champions they come out and win," he said.

Winx's ultimate goal this spring is a third straight Cox Plate -- the race regarded by racing purists as Australia's ultimate prize, and which has been won thrice in the race's 95-year history only by Kingston Town, from 1980 to 1982.

That would guarantee her equine immortality, although to be frank, she's pretty much there already.
