Police Seek To Crack Case Of Bumbling 'Undies' Thief In Melbourne

He bottomed out during the robbery.

They say crime doesn't pay, but they what they don't tell you is you'll become the butt of jokes.

When you wear your Friday undies on a Wednesday, it's a sure sign nothing is going to go right.

But having a bad day was probably the last thing on this bumbling thief's mind when he tried to rob Melbourne Service Station on Wednesday, inadvertently giving the world a gawk of both his underpants and his chaotic approach to dressing.

Stay with us, we'll be brief.

The case the cops are trying to crack started when the thief approached the Reservoir service station wearing a mask, but staff wouldn't let him in until he removed it and displayed his face.

Refusing to be rebutted, he removes the mask and is let inside. He then re-covers his face and, armed with a pair of scissors and clearly after more than just the bare necessities, jumps the counter to steal cigarettes and cash before trying to run.

But he stinks at it and is unable operate the door. He throws the cash register at the glass door, sending it -- and the cash -- ricocheting to the floor.

It's when he bends down to pick up his booty that the world got to see where it all went wrong for the bloke.

"The offender was delayed for several minutes as he tried to master the green door button," Police said in a statement that contained no shade whatsoever.

"Despite the offence occurring on a Wednesday, he was wearing underpants clearly marked 'Friday.'"

It is understood no-one was hurt in the robbery.

He is described as Caucasian in appearance, medium build and short dark hair.
