US rapper Macklemore has gotten acquainted with some Australian delicacies after touching down in Sydney ahead of his controversial set at the NRL Grand Final this weekend.

Grammy-winner Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Haggerty, landed early Saturday and just hours later posted a video on social media showcasing a selection of local treats.

In the vision, uploaded on Instagram, the Thrift Shop singer takes in the harbour view from his luxury hotel room before checking out the Aussie snacks.

The package, said to be provided by the NRL, included Tim Tams, Iced VoVos, Anzac biscuits, Caramello Koalas and barbecue-flavoured Shapes.

"Yo the NRL hooked me up, I got some Tim Tams, I got some Ar-Noits (sic), I got some Anzacs, I got some koalas, some of these," the rapper said.

The post comes a day out from Macklemore's show on the NRL's biggest stage amid debate over his set list that includes the pro same-sex marriage anthem Same Love.

The track, which was written back in 2013, surged back up the iTunes ranks in Australia this week after conservative former prime minister Tony Abbott said "footy fans shouldn't be subjected to a politicised grand final".

Before heading to Australia, Macklemore told a US radio station he was getting "a lot of tweets from angry old white men in Australia who I think there was a petition today to ban me from playing (Same Love)".

The fracas over Macklemore's choice of song coincides with Australia completing the postal survey on gay marriage, with strident campaigning on both sides of the argument.
