Elisa Curry has been missing for three days.

The search for Melbourne mum Elisa Curry has entered it's fifth day, with police holding out hope of finding the missing 43-year-old alive as rescuers continue to scour the Great Otway National Park for her whereabouts.

Curry was last seen by her neighbours at Aireys Inlet, on Victoria's surf coast on Saturday night. Her husband and children were in Melbourne for the AFL grand final.

The family returned the next day only to find Curry, her dog and her mobile phone missing. Her dog was later found wandering around the local streets, leading to hopes that Curry would be found soon too but there is no trace of her.

Police have have already discounted a theory that Elisa had gone for a run on Saturday night.

Inspector Peter Seel told reporters the search -- hampered by thick bush -- would be reassessed on Wednesday afternoon.

"We're hopeful that she is alive, we're looking for a live person at the moment," Insp. Seel is reported to have said.

"Obviously as time goes on it's less likely that she is alive."

On Tuesday specialist police including search and rescue, the air-wing, water police, mounted branch and members on dirt bikes searched the Great Otway National Park and waters off the south west coast.

State Emergency Services along with Parks Victoria staff also searched tracks and bushland within a 20 kilometre radius of Aireys Inlet.

Police believe she went running on Sunday morning while there have been reports of a woman matching Curry's description being seen around her home. But these apparent sightings haven't led to any concrete news.

David Curry, Elisa's husband, has made an emotional appeal to the public to come forward if they know anything about the disappearance of his wife.

David Curry, who heads of regulatory and corporate affairs at the Australian Leisure and Hospitality Group, urged anyone who has seen his wife to call police.

"I, my kids, we just want her to come home," Curry told the media.

"Elisa if you're out there can you please contact us? If anyone has seen anything or heard anything, can you please, please call police, please call triple-zero."

Police have said it's possible Curry went for her usual run between Aireys Inlet and Lorne on Sunday morning, Fairfax reports.

But there are fears she might have been injured or become lost. However, police have found no trace of Curry near her regular tracks.

The area Curry was last seen is close to sheer cliff faces that lead to beaches, some of which are not accessible by land. Water police have joined in the search in waters off the Victorian south west coast.

Curry is described as Caucasian, about 167cm tall, with an athletic build, brown eyes and brown shoulder-length hair. It's not known what she was wearing when she disappeared.
