Matt Lucas has expressed regret about some of the characters he and David Walliams portrayed in āLittle Britainā.
The comedian and actor said he would avoid playing transvestites and black characters if he ever made a similar sketch show again because āsociety has moved onā.
āLittle Britainā was a huge hit for the BBC between 2000 and 2007, spawning many a catchphrase, including Emily the transvestiteās āIām a ladyā and gay Welshman Daffydās āIām the only gay in the villageā.
He told The Big Issue: āIf I could go back and do Little Britain again, I wouldnāt make those jokes about transvestites. I wouldnāt play black characters.
āBasically, I wouldnāt make that show now. It would upset people.
The 43-year-old added that the comedy duo never intended to cause offence - they simply, wanted to show off and entertain.
He also revealed heād said sorry to Gary Barlow after mocking the Take That frontman in the āRock Profiles spoof series, which he also starred in with David Walliams.
āAnd as Iāve got older, Iāve become more empathetic, I care more about hurting people. Iāve only met Gary Barlow a few times, but Iāve apologised every time,ā he said.
Despite ruling out ever reviving āLittle Britainā, we could still see Matt working with his former co-star again, after David Walliams revealed heād ālove toā.
āI wouldnāt be where I am today without him,ā David said earlier this year. āI donāt think weād get away with things we did on [Little Britain] now.
āHe moved to America and it made it more complicated, but Iām sure we will one day.ā
