The Victoria government has come good on its pledge to give tenants in the state a "fairer deal" as it prepares to unveil sweeping reforms to support renters across the state.
The Andrews Government will on Sunday reveal bold reforms to boost the power of tenants, including capping bonds that are paid to secure rental properties, NewsCorp Australia reports.
Big winners will also be renters with pets as the changes allow tenants to have a pet in their rental property. The reforms also outlaw landlords evicting tenants without a reason.
There will also be a new Commissioner for Residential Tenancies, who will advocate on behalf of tenants, the ABC reports.
Consumer Affairs Minister Marlene Kairouz said the changers were about protecting the one in four Victorians who rented.
"More people are renting than ever before and for longer – that's why tenants need a fairer deal," she told NewsCorp.
