Ireland's National Lottery Assures Punters Their Draws Aren't Rigged After Ball Saga

Viewers identified a ball that seemingly had two different numbers on it.

Ireland's National Lottery has had to assure punters of its integrity after eagle eyed viewers spotted what appeared to be two separate numbers on a single ball.

After landing, number 38 -- the second ball drawn in Saturday night's draw -- appeared to also have the number 33 drawn on it.

"Is it 33 or 38? Or do you thing [sic] Lotto people cheating?" one Twitter user said.

Lottery officials however were quick to deny any allegations of ball tampering, saying that a reflection of light was the culprit.

A spokesperson for the National Lottery said that it "would like to assure its players of the integrity of Saturday night's Lotto Plus One draw", Sky News reported.

"A brief reflection of the light during filming caused an illusion and some players to think there were two numbers on ball 38 ... This was not the case.

"The weight and size of all Lotto balls, and the numbers, are strictly checked in advance of each draw. This process, as well as the draw itself, is independently verified by our auditors KPMG."
