Multiple people have been injured and police have declared a critical incident after a man driving a stolen truck went on a rampage in a small NSW town, tearing through parked cars on a busy main street.
A number of people were injured -- one critically -- when the truck caught fire after crashing into several vehicles and buildings in Singleton, near Newcastle, just before 7.30am on Wednesday.
The driver of the alleged stolen truck was arrested at the scene and is currently assisting police with inquiries.
The Singleton Argus reports the truck was stolen from a BP service station while its owner was paying for fuel.
Police say a pursuit was not initiated, but officers deployed road spikes in Singleton in order to try and stop the truck.
A critical incident investigation is underway, and that investigation will be subject to independent review.
Police are expected to address the media later on Wednesday.
