Cassandra Sainsbury has appeared in court in Colombia.

A plea deal has reportedly been agreed to between accused drug smuggler Cassandra Sainsbury and prosecutors.

The deal would see Sainsbury serve a maximum 72 months, or six years, prison, NewsCorp Australia reports.

A Colombian judge is said to be considering the deal after a closed court session of the Bogota Special Circuit Court on Friday local time.

The court will return with a verdict on November 1, NewsCorp reports.

The hearing has reportedly been held behind closed doors at the request of Sainsbury's mother.

The plea deal is similar to the first agreement struck between Sainsbury's lawyer and prosecutors, which fell apart after the accused smuggler did not accept responsibility for the alleged crime.
