Netflix Has Confirmed That 'Making A Murderer Part 2' Is Coming

10 new instalments will debut on 19 October.

It's been three long years, but Netflix has now confirmed that new episodes of 'Making A Murderer' are coming.

The news was confirmed on the streaming service's official Twitter account on Tuesday, with the new instalments being billed as a "part two", rather than a second series.

First announced in July 2016, the 10 new episodes have been years in the making, and will revisit Steven Avery's story, as well as the various developments that have come up since 'Making A Murderer' began streaming.

Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos said in a statement: "Building on 'Part 1', which documented the experience of the accused, in 'Part 2', we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit.

"We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers."

'Making A Murderer' debuted on Netflix in December 2015 and told the story of Steven Avery, a man from Wisconsin who served 18 years in prison for a sexual assault, for which he was later exonerated upon the emergence of new DNA evidence.

However, two years after leaving incarceration, he was charged with murder and eventually sentenced to life imprisonment without parole, while his nephew Brendan Dassey was also convicted as an accessory to the crime.

The true-crime documentary proved to be one of Netflix's most successful and gripping offerings ever, winning acclaim from critics and viewers all over the world and scooping an impressive four Emmys, including Outstanding Documentary Or Non-Fiction Series.

'Making A Murderer Part 2' is set to begin streaming on Netflix on Friday 19 October.
